The Bowie knife is a large knife created by James Black during the 19th century. It was a fixed blade knife created for Jim Bowie who was fighting the famous Sandbar fight.
The knife features a clip point and a crossguard and is known for its brutality and strength. There is a great history behind this knife, but as of now, I am not focusing on its history.
Rather, I am exploring its uses today. Since I have a bowie knife, I use it in several different ways. Following are the six uses I make of my bowie:
1. Combat
The Bowie knife was basically a combat knife. It was created as a fighting knife for Jim Bowie who was battling in a sandbar fight.
So, I can use it as my fighting knife. With its powerful and badass blade, it comes up as a great weapon in close quarters combat.
2. Self Defense
Secondly, I can use my bowie knife for self defense. Since I have been attacked a couple of times by the attackers, now I tend to carry my knife to battle the attackers and survive. However, I always put a sheath on the blade while carrying it to avoid accidental injuries.
3. Skinning
I often use a Bowie knife for skinning work. Skinning refers to field dressing an animal.
After hunting a deer, I use my bowie to remove skin from him. Since this knife has a clip point, it makes it very easy for me to remove the skin from a deer.
4. Hunting
The bowie knife also assists me in hunting and fishing. Apart from skinning work, I can use my knife for removing scales from the fish. In fact, it has now become my essential hunting gear.
5. Butchering Game
My bowie knife is also my knife to cut meat. Since I often get engaged in hunting, I need to cut meat and prepare food. Thankfully, I have this knife to get this done.
6. Survival
I always say that you need a powerful knife for survival, and this bowie knife has the potential to be my survival knife. I can use it to survive against the wild animals I often encounter.
Since I am a hunter and a camper, I often have to deal with deadly wild animals. To get rid of this knife, only a strong knife such as a bowie can help!
