Pocket knife is a modern knife with a folding blade. This is a small but incredible knife that meets the needs of the user. It was designed as a knife to be carried in the pocket.
Yes, it does fit into the pocket nicely. Also, it is an everyday carry knife that proves to be handy in everyday cutting tasks. A pocket knife has a blade that can be folded and locked inside the handle.
This makes it a small and easy to carry knife. The foldability of the blade is the main feature of this knife which makes it a modern knife. There are different types of pocket knives as well.
I am specifically focusing on the types today. In 2020, there are three types of pocket knives as explained below:
1. Manual Folding Knives
Pocket knives are modern knives, but not the newest. There were traditional pocket knives that are also known as manual folding knives. The earliest knives of this mechanism had blades that were folded and opened manually.
There were back locks on these knives. To fold their blades, you have to manually push the blade and then fold it in the handle. The back lock works to lock the blade. To open the blade, you have to pull it manually to open the blade.
So, this is a manual process of folding and opening the blade that defines these types of knives. They are no longer popular among users, but are still collected by enthusiasts.
2. Spring Assisted Knives
Spring assisted knives are the most popular type of pocket knives. These knives feature springs that allow blade deployment. The blade is folded manually by pushing it. To open the blade, you have to pull it slightly and then the spring does the rest.
You have to partially open it to a certain extent and then it opens to full position itself. These knives are known to be durable and are carried on a daily basis. These EDC knives serve a lot of purposes, especially routine cutting tasks and self defense.
3. Automatic Knives
Having said that blade deployment method differentiates the types of pocket knives, here is an automatic blade deployment knife. These knives are also called switchblades. They feature push buttons and you need to push that button to open the blade.
As you push it, the blade opens to full position quickly. Due to their speed, they are mainly used for self defense. The quick blade deployment makes it ideal for self defense.
So, these are the different types of pocket knives. Hence, we conclude that all these types differ as per their blade deployment method. Anyways, there are different cool knives that differ as per their designs, color schemes, blade styles and features etc.
